AEW DYNAMITE RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR APR. 1
The pigs are taking shots at the mourners on the hill. I’m truly not neutral but I lost all direction. Day I woke ready to blow the bridge for finding you hand over your mouth, so instead, I’m here to liveblog this pro wrestling show for you, folks.
The show opens with Tony Schiavone in the ring for the contract signing for the AEW Men’s World Championship match between Maxwell Jacob Friedman and Kenny Omega, but he keeps getting interrupted by pyro going off on the stage.
He takes his time and lets most of Judas play while the crowd sings along before finally telling Winnipeg and AEW that he’s home.
We cut backstage to where Will Ospreay is beating the holy hell out of Jon Moxley until Wheeler YUTA arrives to try and pull him away! Ospreay gets the better of him and goes right back to beating Jon up until finally enough security arrives on the scene to break it up!
Back to the contract signing, Maxwell Jacob Friedman makes his entrance, followed immediately thereafter by Kenny Omega.
Friedman signs the contract and slides it over, Omega takes a moment longer to look it over and signs it himself. Max starts talking but Kenny tells him to shut his mouth, and as well to shut his mouth in French because they’re in Canada. Omega says he knows what MJF has in mind, what he rehearsed in front of the bathroom mirror, thinking he’s hot stuff with his suit and his title and his beautiful new hairplugs.
But it’s not going to work that way this time, Max, it’s not gonna go the way he planned and Friedman talks about the crowds and the ratings being for him, all for the champ, right, that’s what he’s got everyone in the back and their boss and even tried to get Kenny to believe it. But Omega knows they’re not here for Max, they’re here to watch the best wrestle.
So when he signed that contract and tossed the pen away it’s not because he’s here to talk, it’s because he’s here for that belt his holding, when he was two minutes away from death, talking about a real world problem that endangered his life and that’s what everyone told him because they want something better than MJF.
Max calls himself the best, calls himself the Devil, and Kenny has never said he’s anything but a professional wrestler, but somebody needs to knock Friedman down a peg, strike him down, and make sure he never gets near the belt again, and he’s the man to do it. MJF says he can sit here and talk about how like his talentless injury-prone boyfriend Kota Ibushi, Kenny is one injury away from retirement, but that’d be easy.
He wants to talk about the thing Omega doesn’t want to talk about, the thing that keeps him up at night, and haven’t you been curious as to why Kenny is so desperate to become world champion again? He wants it more than anyone and that’s saying something given how sought-after the title is in all of pro wrestling.
He asks Omega if he’ll tell them or if he should, and Max says Kenny went to the doctor and the doctor took some scans on his stomach and he had some rough news that Omega’s intestines could explode any minute, any time, anywhere. Scary stuff! His stomach is a ticking time bomb, and his life is on a fast-winding clock.
Omega is in a race against time to cement his legacy but things get worse, because when the Devil’s through with him at Dynasty, all his disciples will have no choice but to be embarrassed and ashamed of him and have to admit their god is nothing more than a false idol who’d be better off dead.
That gets Kenny riled up enough to knock the table over and start at MJF, but he stops short and “Speedball” Mike Bailey intervenes. Max makes a “wax on, wax off” joke and Bailey takes the mic and says everyone knows he’s just goading Kenny into hitting him so the title match will be off, because he’s afraid.
But he should be thanking Omega, because without Omega there’s no AEW, and without AEW there’s no MJF. Friedman walks around demanding respect, but respect is earned and he has to respect the fact that Kenny is a living legend, but the only plax Max is a living legend is inside his own mind.
So maybe some of that ego and arrogance will go away if he kicks some sense into MJF’s head, so let’s do it right here, right now (Van Halen’s kicking ass in America), in the greatest country on Earth! Omega steps up and says he talked to Max’s doctor too, (so much for HIPAA laws!) and yeah, he’s missing about 20 inches of intestine, but at least he’s not missing his balls.
MJF says that’s cute, he wants to stick up for his pal and that’s great, he’ll fight Speedball in the main event, but he’ll make an example of him and to be clear, this country is a dump and Max hails from the only country that matters, the United States of America. Tonight Mike isn’t wrestling just any MJF, he’s wrestling an American hero.
The Demand and Brody King make their entrances to send us to break.
Brody King, “Jungle Man” Jack Perry, & Kenny Omega vs. the Demand (Bishop Kaun, Ricochet, & Toa Liona)
Kaun and Omega to start, collar and elbow, Bishop with a side headlock, Kenny reverses to one of his own, shot off, drop down, leapfrog, Ricochet with a cheap shot from the apron! Quick tags, working Omega over in the corner, kicking him in his potentially explosive midsection, action to the floor and Jungle Man cleans house with an Orihara moonsault!
Back inside, King with Ricochet, gouging Brody’s eyes, Liona runs in to help out, Perry joins them, Kaun joins the fray, then so does Omega… TRIPLICATE SUPLEX FOR THE BABYFACE TEAM! Jack legal, Bishop tags in blind and Toa freight trains him on the floor to send us to break!
Back from commercial, Jungle Man on the wrong side of town as the Demand work him over, Liona gets a deep nearfall! Omega in, kick and the Dragon suplex for Kaun, one for Ricochet, tries for Toa but the big man breaks his grip! Liona makes the mistake of attacking King, Brody gets in the ring and drops him with a right hand and now the Dragon suplex connects!
Cover on Bishop for two, Brody directing traffic, double whip, boot up on King, back body drop puts Ken on the apron and a kick knocks him to the floor! Low bridge, Brody to the apron, he eats a Stunner, shove Jack away and then Bishop drops him with a lariat! Toa Liona runaway train on the floor, Ricochet dives on Kenny!
Dives on Jungle Man as well, and then on Brody King to boot! Back inside, Kaun cuts King off with a dropkick, clobbers Omega in the corner, running straight suplex, springboard 450 splash from Ricochet… NOT ENOUGH! Perry pulls Ricochet off the apron, leapfrogs Bishop, low bridge on Liona, off the ropes, tope con giro, the Demand catch him… AND BRODY FREIGHT TRAIN DIVES ON THEM!
Kenny calls for it, off the ropes, Ricochet intercepts the Terminator dive with a lariat! Handspring kick knocks Brody to the floor, corkscrew tope con giro takes the big man down! Back up top, Ricochet perches… NOBODY HOME ON THE 450 SPLASH! V-TRIGGER CONNECTS! Ricochet sidesteps… POISON FRANKENSTEINER!
Action on the floor and Brody dives Toa through the damn timekeeper’s barricade! Spirit Gun ducked, superkick connects, enzuigiri, Vertigo connects… STILL NO! Jack Perry with a knee to Bishop on the floor, taking his title from Ricochet, electric chair, slip out, shove to the ropes, schoolboy for a deep two!
Kenny recovers, V-Trigger, off the ropes, V-Trigger in the ropes, electric chair… ONE-WINGED ANGEL AND IT IS OVER!
Brody King, “Jungle Man” Jack Perry, & Kenny Omega win by pinfall with One-Winged Angel from Omega on Ricochet.
Willow Nightingale cuts a promo backstage.
She says the face of TBS but maybe tomorrow night she’ll be the face of TNT given a very special Collision. She’s gonna defend the AEW TBS Championship tomorrow night. Against who? The very best, in an open challenge!
Christian Cage and Adam Copeland run into an interview with Renee Paquette.
Copeland says they’re here to take anyone out who happens to be in their way, Cage makes like he’s gonna hit Renee with the chair but Adam has to tell him she’s not in their way. The asshole walks and Copeland scampers after him to reiterate that we don’t hit Renee with chairs.
Back from commercial, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage run into RPG Vice and have a quick chat that turns to violence, beating them down!
PAC attacks Will Ospreay during his entrance and beats him down on the ramp, snapping off a sheerdrop brainbuster!
Medics check on Will as the Bastard goes to the ring to sneer. Ospreay breathing slow, taking his time, claiming he’s fine as he gets on his knees. The medics try to tell him he doesn’t have to do anything, but once he’s on his feet he makes directly for the ring over the objections of a medic that says he’s putting his neck in danger.
He slides in and we’re off! PAC cuts him off with a dropkick and puts boots to his head and neck! Stomping, choking, scoop and a slam, knee drop to the face, cover for one and we go to break!
Back from commercial, Ospreay managing to fight into it, PAC cuts him off with a back elbow but Will traps him in the corner! Cheeky Nando’s denied, moonsault, Ospreay catches him, blocks a DDT and reverses to a brainbuster of his own! Off the top with the 450 splash… SO CLOSE! Will calling for the Hidden Blade but the Bastard rolls to the floor, so he shifts gears, PAC shoves him off the turnbuckles!
Trading elbows over the ringpost, shoulder block, back inside, off the ropes, suicide sunset flip, PAC hangs in there and blocks, kicks from the apron… MOONSAULT INTO THE TORNADO DDT ON THE FLOOR! Both men down on the floor as Turner counts, the Bastard slides in at seven, Will stumble at nine… AND GETS IN BEFORE TEN ONLY TO GET CAUGHT IN THE BRUTALIZER!
Ospreay immediately gets a foot in the ropes and PAC holds it for the full count! He breaks, Will writhes in agony, and we go to break!
Back from commercial, Ospreay rises to his feet, steel in his spine, shrugging off a boot and trading elbows with the Bastard! PAC shifts to a rolling solebutt, off the ropes, duck an enzuigiri, waistlock into a bridging German suplex… NOT ENOUGH! Off the ropes, Will gets him with a powerbomb out of a powerslam clutch, Styles Clash, slow to the pin… PAC KICKS OUT!
Ospreay up top, the Bastard cuts him off, avalanche Poison Frankensteiner… WILL LANDS ON HIS FEET! Hurricanrana from PAC, only two, back and forth, ducking and dodging, pop-up drop from the Bastard and he follows it with a lariat and a Tombstone Piledriver but no cover! He leaves Ospreay laying face down, climbs up top… BLACK ARROW AND INTO THE BRUTALIZER!
Will refusing to give, he’s so close to the ropes but he can’t see his legs or the ropes to make contact so he posts up on his damn neck to get to his knees! Gutting it out, trying to get to his feet but his legs give out! Turner checking, the Bastard insists Will is out but he’s gritting his teeth, swiveling around, foot almost on the ropes… PAC ROLLS HIM BACK TO THE MIDDLE OF THE RING BUT OSPREAY USES HIS MOMENTUM TO COUNTER WITH A PIN! IT’S OVER!
Will Ospreay wins by countering the Brutalizer into a pin.
Post-match, PAC beats Will down more, flipping Paul Turner double birds when he objects, leaving Ospreay just enough time for the Hidden Blade!
Daniel Garcia and Wheeler YUTA arrive to beat Will down, Claudio Castagnoli not far behind with a steel chair, Jon Moxley and Marina Shafir behind him. Claudio horsecollars Ospreay with the steel chair, he backs up to Pillmanize Will but Moxley stops him short and grabs a microphone!
He pats Ospreay’s cheek and asks how he thought this was going to go given that there’s six of them. He asks Will if he put himself here or if they put him here and says it could have been a real bad night for him but instead he’s gonna give him some advice– use your head or lose it, permanently.
Jon then says this isn’t personal for him and warns Ospreay not to make it personal, and Death Riders leave together, with Will face-down in the ring, his neck threaded through a chair.
Brawling Birds (Alex Windsor & Jamie Hayter) & Mina Shirakawa vs. Triangle of Madness (Julia Hart, Skye Blue, & Thekla)
Shirakawa and Thekla to start, the champ ducks under and runs away and Blue tags in. Skye with a waistlock, Mina slips out, Blue ducks a backfist and mat slams Shirakawa! Taking Mina into the corner, she sidesteps the charge, double jump stomp, off the ropes, neckbreaker drop connects, tag to Windsor.
Alex cleans house, clears the apron, whip reversed, blind tag to Hayter, Manhattan Drop sets Skye up for more double-teams, cover… NOPE! Shirakawa back in, slingshot tornillo, foot on the ropes, fireman’s carry, Blue slips out, clears the Birds off the apron, running knee to Mina’s back, Thekla with a boot of her own and Shirakawa falls to the floor where she eats a double stomp as we go to break!
Back from commercial, all six women down and out, Windsor and Thekla back on their feet, trading right hands, Shirakawa tags in, running backfist, off the ropes, lariat, cover for two! The match breaks down into “everybody do something cool” territory, leaving Mina and Thekla down and out as referee Aubrey Edwards issues her standing ten count!
Thekla up first, taking her into the corner, tags made, Sisters of Sin working her over in the corner, back body drop sends Skye to the floor, rolling tag to Hayter and the Birds double-team Hart, sandwich lariats, bear hug, Thekla grabs Hayter’s hair and tries to clock her with a loaded punch but Jamie counters with a headbutt!
Thekla still has the knucks but the Birds hit Two Birds, One Stone! Back to Julia, Hayter hits her…
Brawling Birds & Mina Shirakawa win by pinfall with Hayterade from Jamie Hayter on Julia Hart.
Darby Allin makes his entrance and gets on the mic.
He reminds MJF that he’s gonna keep his foot on the throttle until he sees god or the AEW Men’s World Championship and he hasn’t seen god yet, so why are we wasting time with the Don Callis Family when he’s not gonna stop. He doesn’t care if Kenny Omega beats him or if anybody beats him, as long as this egotistical powertrip he’s on is stopped.
He wants to have a little conversation with the Devil and calls Maxwell Jacob Friedman down.
He gets Don Callis, Andrade el Idolo, Lance Archer, El Clon, and Hechicero instead.
Callis says that Max has authorized him to tell Darby that if he can beat his hand-picked member of the Family at Dynasty, he’ll get a world title shot, and they both agree on the man to beat… Andrade!
El Idolo acts confused and argues with Don as Lance Archer goes to the ring to try and teach Darby a lesson. Allin cracks him with his skateboard!
Brody King and “Jungle Man” Jack Perry show up to counter Clon and Hechicero!
King and Perry get in the ring with Darby, there’s a three-way staredown…
Darby leaves and has a moment with Kenny on his way out and we go to break to get ready for our main event.
Maxwell Jacob Friedman vs. “Speedball” Mike Bailey
Kenny Omega is on commentary for this one.
Friedman cheapshots Bailey before the match and referee Bryce Remsburg has to check but they’re ready to fight!
Speedball pops up on the charge, hard strikes in the corner, Friedman throws them to the floor and stalks after, putting Mike into the steel steps before sauntering back over to jaw at Omega at the desk. Throwing Bailey back inside, clawing at their face, following it with a reverse chinlock, Speedball breaks free with elbows but Max drops them with a hairpull and gets some cheap heat for being American. (Which is fair, we do suck.)
Whips blocked, Friedman getting frustrated at “Canada!” chants, Mike wades in with elbows, whip reversed, Frankensteiner countered with a powerbomb backbreaker onto the knee, it’s loose but it’s good for a nearfall! Mocking Bailey with Karate Kid crane kick moves, Speedball sweeps his leg and gets a thumb in the eyes for their trouble!
Laying kicks in, Speedball Kicks, enzuigiri and MJF crumbles! Rolling solebutt, axe kick, chest kick, fired up, running shooting star press, cover for two! Kick sends Max to the floor, Speedball dives on him, back inside, missile dropkick and Mike goes out to the apron, up top, but MJF rolls away!
Speedball heads over, drags Max to his feet and gets hung on the ropes for their trouble! Backslide, cover for two, small package, no deal, straitjacket sunset flip… STILL NO! Big crescent kick, strike rush in return from Friedman, off the ropes, moonsault fallaway slam… NO DEAL!
Both wrestlers down and out, to the apron, Heatseeker countered, MJF counters a springboard with a Liger Bomb… SO CLOSE! Kicking Bailey to the floor, Max flexes for the crowd and flips the bird! Another Heatseeker to no avail, out to the floor, Speedball with a huge crossbody and we go to break!
Back from commercial, Speedball up top and Friedman trips them up and knocks them down! Out to the apron, moonsault knees stagger Max, Mike goes back up top, Ultima Weapon takes just a little bit too long and Max rolls away! Dragon suplex catches MJF, two kicks miss so the crescent can connect, roundhouse in the corner, back in position… ULTIMA WEAPON BUT MAX IS TOO CLOSE TO THE ROPES AND GETS THE BREAK!
Speedball sets Max up top but gets their eyes raked in the process. Friedman adjusts himself on the apron, charges in, leg pick cuts him off… NOBODY HOME FOR THE MOONSAULT KNEES! MJF WITH A TOMBSTONE PILEDRIVER ON THE APRON! Pulling Mike over the ropes, shouting “God bless America”…
Maxwell Jacob Friedman wins by pinfall with the Heatseeker.
Post-match, Friedman jumps Bailey with grounded punches and Kenny Omega rushes in and makes the save!
Max runs away and holds the title over his head on the stage, talking trash at Kenny before leaving.
Omega checks on Speedball, joined by referee Bryce Remsburg and a medic as Mike manages to get up to kneeling and then on their feet with the help of Bryce, whereupon Kenny raises their hand. Bailey returns the favor.
That’s the show, folks.
