Who’s Hosting SNL This Week? A New Five-Timer Enters the Club on April 4

It’s felt like an eternity since the last all-new episode of Saturday Night Live, even though Harry Styles’ March 14th double-duty episode was just a few weeks ago. After two weeks of hiatus for the cast and crew, SNL‘s next new episode happens on April 4.

It’s going to be a special one, as a fan-favorite is returning one year after his great Season 50 episode.

Who is Hosting SNL on April 4?
Jack Black.
The comedy icon revives his role voicing Bowser in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, due in theaters nationwide on April 1.

How many times has Jack Black Hosted SNL?
The actor’s April 4 appearance will mark his entry into the Five-Timers Club, reserved for stars who have Hosted Saturday Night Live five times or more. Will there be an induction featuring fellow members, like Martin Short most recently did in Season 50? You’ll have to watch to find out!

For Black, it’s been an accolade over 24 years in the making. The star and Tenacious D member first Hosted back in Season 27 on January 19, 2002. His most recent Hosting gig In Season 50, which marked the first time he set foot in Studio 8H since 2005.
During Black’s April 22, 2025, appearance on the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast, Amy Poehler revealed that he was her all-time favorite SNL Host. This admission led to Black explaining how good it felt to get the call to return in Season 50 after his two-decade absence:
“It was very emotional because I had such great memories of doing it all those years ago, decades before,” he revealed.

- Season 27: January 19, 2002, with Musical Guest The Strokes
- Season 29: October 4, 2003, with John Mayer
- Season 31: December 17, 2005, with Neil Young
- Season 50: April 5, 2025, with Elton John and Brandi Carlile
Black also performed as Musical Guest as half of his comedy duo Tenacious D on December 2, 2006.

Who is Saturday Night Live’s April 4 Musical Guest?
Jack White. After the 12-time Grammy winner takes the stage on April 4, White will have seven appearances as Musical Guest under his belt.

After his initial appearance as half of The White Stripes in 2002 (which is notable for a pre-performance introduction by none other than Senator John McCain), the artist returned as a solo performer in 2012, 2018, 2020, and 2023. He also closed otu 2025’s SNL50: The Homecoming Concert, which is now streaming on Peacock.
In other words, the April 4 episode will have a decidedly Black-and-White feel — something that, believe it or not, was prophesied by Woody Harrelson back in 2023.
