Royal Mail has cautioned residents across 30 postcode areas that their post will not arrive on time, as the UK braces for a period of “no deliveries”. The postal service has faced mounting criticism over delayed deliveries in recent months.

As of Saturday, April 4, 30 postcode areas are experiencing disruption to their mail. This follows the suspension of Royal Mail’s service across England, Wales and Northern Ireland on Good Friday.

There will also be no deliveries or collections throughout the UK on Monday, April 6, due to the Easter Monday bank holiday. Royal Mail said: “We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week.

“In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors.

“In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers. We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive.”

It added: “We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.” Among the areas currently experiencing delays are Deeside and Pontyclun.

Royal Mail’s standard weekend delivery and collection services are continuing today, despite the Easter weekend. Customer Service Points remain open for those wishing to collect parcels.

On Easter Sunday, Royal Mail has confirmed that its Sunday parcel deliveries are expected to go ahead as normal. Just last week, its owner Daniel Kretinsky appeared before MPs to address Royal Mail’s delays. He said: “Of course I am deeply sorry for any letters that arrive late.”

Nevertheless, he rejected claims that Royal Mail’s record for late letter deliveries was worsening. Addressing the Commons Business select committee, Mr Kretinsky remarked: “It is not perfect, but it is not catastrophic.”

Customers have been advised to purchase stamps this weekend ahead of the price increase on April 7. First Class stamps will rise to £1.80 and Second Class to 91p. The cost of a First Class stamp back in 2020 stood at 76p, reports the Mirror.
