Walsall fret over fitness of key man as they face ‘must-win’ game with Swindon

The Nigel Eady County Ground plays host to yet another massive game this Easter Monday, as Walsall are in town.
Swindon know that they need three points to stay in touch with the top three, but, after 2-2 draw with Gillingham on Good Friday, The Saddlers need the three points for their own playoff hopes to stay alive.
One of Walsall’s main additions in the January transfer window was Bradford City midfielder Alex Pattison, but was forced off in the first half on Friday.
Walsall boss Darren Byfield said that they would need to check on him ahead of the quick turnaround to play again on Monday.
Speaking to club media, he said: “We have to let it settle down and have a look at it.
“Obviously, once he came off, you lose that power and drive and ability that he has, and every team would feel it when you lose someone of that level.”
Prior to playing Gillingham on Friday, Walsall did get positive news on the injury front, with three players returning in attack.
Their top goalscorer Daniel Kanu returned, as did Aaron Loupalo-Bi and Jamille Matt, which gave Byfield a few more options.
However, potentially losing Pattison would be a big blow for them in such an important game, with his performances being massive to their upturn in form across recent matches.
Walsall are three points off the playoff places in a congested battle for the post-season, but with at least one game more played than those around them.
Byfield said that dropping points at home to Gillingham msde the trip to Swindon of paramount importance to their hopes of making the top seven.
He said: “I am disappointed because I want to win at home four our fans, but it is a big game on Monday now.
“That is a big game, and we have to go there, and we have to win.
“I have to look at the team and see how they are feeling, because changes will be made, so we can have a good go.
“That game is even more important now that we did not win [against Gillingham], so we have to get ourselves right and go there with that winning mentality and take the game to them.”
