Former Bears center finds new home with Giants

Former Chicago Bears offensive lineman Lucas Patrick is signing a one-year deal with the New York Giants, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Patrick, who spent most of his career with the Green Bay Packers, played two seasons with the Bears from 2022-23, where he served as a starter at multiple positions along the offensive line. Patrick was originally signed to serve as center for former Bears quarterback Justin Fields, but injuries to guards Cody Whitehair and Teven Jenkins forced him to kick outside to guard in 2022.

Patrick played exclusively at center the following season, starting 15 games in 2023. But center was a big issue for Chicago at the time. Since leaving the Bears, Patrick has played with the New Orleans Saints (2024) and most recently the Cincinnati Bengals (2025).

The Bears have come a long way at center since Patrick was the starting center, where Drew Dalman earned a Pro Bowl nod in his first season in Chicago. Unfortunately, Dalman shockingly retired this offseason, meaning the Bears had to once again go back to the drawing board at center.
Chicago traded for Garrett Bradbury to serve as the short-term solution, and general manager Ryan Poles and his team appear to be doing their homework on centers in the draft for the future.
