Steve McNamara will be Hull FC’s head coach in 2027 and beyond.

Steve McNamara is set to be the new head coach of Hull FC for the 2027 season and beyond.

Hull Live understands the Hull-born coach has been singled out as the club’s number one target after the departure of John Cartwright was confirmed at the end of the season, with the Black and Whites moving quickly to finalise the deal.

McNamara is believed to have long desired the top job at Hull FC, and is now set to coach the club he first played for back in 1989. The former back rower was a Premiership winner in 1991 with the Black and Whites, and played over 160 games for the club. He is now set to lead Hull into the future, with the club understood to be confident he is the man to take them to the next level.

McNamara has strong coaching pedigree in Super League with Bradford Bulls and Catalans Dragons, winning the Challenge Cup with the French club in 2018. He also made Super League Grand Finals with the Dragons in both the 2021 and 2023 seasons, winning the League Leaders Shield in 2021.

He also coached England from 2010 to 2015 and has had spells working in the NRL with both Sydney Roosters and New Zealand Warriors.

After leaving Catalans last year, McNamara joined Warrington Wolves in a coaching role, offering assistant to head coach Sam Burgess, with the Wire currently topping the Super League table after seven rounds. But Hull FC is his next destination, with the 54-year-old set for a big pre-season at the club this autumn.

Hull Live have approached Hull FC for comment and have been told an update will follow shortly on who the next head coach will be. However, this is a ‘strategic move.’
