Weekend storm to bring rain chances to Arizona

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — After a cloudy and cooler start to the week, sunshine returns on Tuesday, along with warmer temperatures.

Look for a high of 94 degrees in the Valley today, which is ten degrees above normal for this time of year. Morning temperatures are cool with lows in the 60s.

An area of low pressure that brought rain to parts of the state Monday is exiting Arizona this morning. Straddled along the Arizona and New Mexico border, the system will continue to bring a few lingering showers to Apache County this morning. The rest of the state will see sunshine and dry weather today.

High pressure is set to build across the Southwest over the next few days, leading to a warming trend. Afternoon highs will climb to the mid-90s today and to the mid to upper 90s on Wednesday and Thursday. Low 90s are likely on Friday with a few more clouds. The clouds are moving in ahead of a low-pressure system that will bring even bigger weather changes this weekend.

Saturday morning looks dry at this point, with Pat’s Run temperatures in the 60s and 70s. Saturday afternoon, high temperatures will peak around 87 degrees.

Valley rain chances increase to about 20 percent by Saturday afternoon and evening, and to near 40 percent late Saturday night and into Sunday morning. Sunday will also be much cooler in the low 80s. Breezy conditions can be expected statewide this weekend with the coming weather changes.

The strength of this storm system, along with the exact track, is still uncertain. This will impact the rainfall totals in the deserts and potential snowfall amounts in the high country. We’ll keep you posted as we get closer and know more.
