Car recalls: Why they happen and what buyers should know
Why do car recalls happen? Here’s what to know if your car has an open recall.
Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 420,000 vehicles, according to a recent notice posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website.
The recall for the vehicles is due to a fault in the car’s windshield wipers, which the notice says could malfunction as its wiper arms may break, reducing visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.
Here’s what you need to know about the recall and what models are included.
What vehicles are included in the recall?
According to the notice, a total of 422,613 Ford and Lincoln vehicles are included in the recall. They include the following models:
- 2021-2023 Ford Expedition
- 2022-2023 Ford F-250 SD
- 2022-2023 Ford F-350 SD
- 2022-2023 Ford F-450 SD
- 2022-2023 Ford F-550 SD
- 2022-2023 Ford F-600 SD
- 2021-2023 Lincoln Navigator
The recall includes 326,239 Ford Super Duty (SD) vehicles, 79,164 Ford Expedition vehicles, and 17,210 Lincoln Navigator vehicles.
What you should do if you own a recalled Ford or Lincoln vehicle
Owners of impacted models are expected to receive notification letters on April 13, according to the notice. Officials said that dealers will inspect and replace affected wiper arms, as necessary, free of charge.
