Aubrey Plaza is expecting her first child with her partner, fellow actor Chris Abbott, People reported on Tuesday. A source close to the couple said “they feel very blessed,” calling it a “beautiful surprise after an emotional year.”
Up until the pregnancy announcement, it was not publicly known that Plaza and Abbott were in a relationship; it’s unclear how long they’ve been together. Abbott, who’s best known for playing Charlie in Girls, is currently starring in a Broadway revival of Death of a Salesman. He has acted alongside Plaza twice — onscreen in the 2020 movie Black Bear and onstage in a 2023 Off Broadway production of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea. In a joint New York Times interview about the play in 2023, the two praised each other as scene partners. “We’re both unafraid to be ugly and weird and strange,” Abbott said of her.
In January 2025, Plaza’s husband, filmmaker Jeff Baena, died by suicide. The two had separated a few months earlier, in September 2024. In an interview on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast seven months after his death, Plaza said her grief was a “daily struggle” but that she’d found comfort in her close circle of female friends.
