A “Jeopardy!” contestant joked in her Final Jeopardy answer. The bet payed off as the others wagered everything and lost, making her the winner.

Fox’s trivia show “The Floor” returns this week, giving dozens of contestants the chance to compete for a prize of $250,000.

Hosted by award-winning actor Rob Lowe, the game show is known for its titular floor made up of over 80 squares where contestants stand. While Season 1 had 81 squares and contestants, producers have since bumped up the number of contestants to 100. Season 5 will also feature 100 squares, Fox confirmed to USA TODAY on Thursday, March 26.

Here’s what to know about Season 5 of the show.

When does ‘The Floor’ Season 5 premiere?’

The show returns with a two-hour premiere at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, April 8. After the premiere and beginning on April 15, the series will air each Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET.

USA TODAY has reached out to Fox for more details about the remaining Season 5 episodes and when they will air.

Where can I watch ‘The Floor’ Season 5?

The show will be available on Wednesdays on Fox. Viewers can stream the show the following day on Hulu (and Disney+ for bundle subscribers).

How does ‘The Floor’ game show work?

“The Floor” is based on Dutch television producer John de Mol’s show of the same title. The U.S. version of the show premiered in early January 2024 and is now in its fifth season.

Each square represents a trivia category, and contestants standing on these squares must choose a nearby opponent to go up against. Categories range from the Met Gala to mythical creatures to Beyoncé songs (Yes, the R&B songstress’s catalog was a category in Season 3.)

If contestants answer correctly, they can take their opponent’s square, putting them one step closer to taking home the prize. If they lose, it’s over. The winning opponent then has to choose whether they’ll try to take over more of the floor, or let it choose a new challenger for them.

The player who gets full control over the floor wins the prize.

Fox confirmed to USA TODAY on March 26 that Season 5 of “The Floor” will include a twist called the territory freeze. Contestants with the most wins in the middle of the season will stay frozen out of the game (and safe) until everyone has played one duel.
