Shane Lowry has opened up on the sad news of his caddie’s father’s passing ahead of his 11th Masters.
Darren Reynolds has been Lowry’s caddie since February 2024, making him the Irishman’s third looper after Dermot Byrne and Bo Martin. While the pair have forged a solid relationship, Reynolds has unfortunately been forced to navigate the sad news of his father’s death.
With the pair back together for the Masters, Lowry spoke about the tragic news and the fact he was unable to attend the funeral. “Yeah, it’s hard,” he said. “It’s been a hard few weeks for him. His dad’s had a tough run over the last while.

“So, you know, he, we talked about that a lot, and obviously he came to Houston the week after Brian, his father. And, you know, I think he’s, yeah, he it’s been a tough few weeks for him, but he’s, you know, he’s Darren.
“He’s a good, good lad, and he’s upbeat, and he’s moving on.”
Lowry was unable to attend the funeral but did make ribbons as a small token of goodwill.
“I’ve made a couple of ribbons,” he said. “And just to just, just to show some respect for like, I wasn’t able to travel back for the for the funeral, all my family went up and whatever. But yeah, and you used the word acceptance a couple of times.”

Discussing his relationship with Reynolds, now they have spent two years together, Lowry is pleased with what they’ve forged so far. The 39-year-old sank the winning Ryder Cup alongside his caddie and believes they’re getting on well.
“I think Darren brings, like, a quiet confidence out there,” he said. “You know, he doesn’t say a whole lot. He goes about his business, and he’s just, just a great person to be around.
“You know, he’s funny at the right times, and says, I feel like he can say the right things at the right times and and just be, just be there for me.
“And, yeah, I feel like we’re getting on well, me and Darren, you know, I think he’s done a great job over the last few years.

“I don’t think we’ve had the success we’d like to have. But also, funny game, you never know what’s around the corner. You’ve been in battle, as it were.
“That Ryder Cup Sunday will stay with the two of us forever. Like, that’s, that’s as much pressure as I’ve ever felt in the course. Like it might change this week, and I’m hoping it’s going to change this week.”
Lowry will tee off alongside Dustin Johnson and Jason Day at 9.43am ET on Thursday.
