2 killed after small plane crashes in remote area of Catalina Island

CATALINA ISLAND, Calif. (KABC) — Two people were killed when a small plane they were aboard crashed on Catalina Island.
The Airplane Factory Sling crashed near Divide Road in a remote area southwest of Avalon around 12:30 p.m. Thursday, according to officials.
The two people on the plane were pronounced dead at the scene by first responders, Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn said.
“This is a tragedy and my heart goes out to the loved ones of those who lost their lives,” Hahn said in a statement. “I am grateful to our paramedics and Sheriff’s deputies who quickly reached this remote area and are handling this incident with professionalism and care.”
The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA will investigate the cause of the crash.
Roads and hiking trails, including Garden to Sky trail, were temporarily closed while the crash is under investigation, the Catalina Island Conservancy said in a statement.
No other details were released.
