Nancy Guthrie memorial partially taken down due to HOA concerns

Nancy Guthrie went missing on February 1, and the community immediately rallied around the family. However, now, a memorial in her honor is a point of contention

Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance caused an upset for a quiet Arizona neighborhood.

When the mother of Today’s Savannah Guthrie was reported missing on February 1, police immediate responded with a search and rescue team. Her home, situated in the Catalina Foothills in Tucson, was deemed a crime scene, resulting in heavy police presence. In addition to the investigators, the case’s high-profile nature caused media interest. Thus, a swarm of reporters fell upon the area.

Eventually, even the public got curious. People came down to the property to leave their marks of support for Nancy, who remains missing as of writing. They left signs, posters, trinkets, and flowers to form a memorial on the edge of her property line. That memorial, however, was partially removed on April 9 in an effort to discourage visitors. It comes after a bombshell Nancy Guthrie update as a person fled the neighborhood within days of the kidnapping.

A source indicated to the Mirror US that a home owners’ association meeting was called to discuss the imposition of visitors. In the meeting, property owners expressed concern over the uptick in traffic. After all, one couple even traveled from Wisconsin just to offer a prayer for Nancy.

The neighbors believed that the memorial itself is a draw to the location and removing it might lead to a decrease in tourists.

Additionally, the community members were concerned about people passing on Nancy’s property. The memorial itself is positioned on private property, so even individuals just stopping by to offer their condolences are mistakingly infringing.

As a result, the neighborhood came together. As of writing, the formal decision on the removal of the memorial was not made. Nonetheless, some parts of the memorial were visibly removed as the size reduced in just a matter of days.

The neighborhood also received an increase in police presence on April 9. A police officer in an unmarked vehicle was stationed outside of the property with vehicles patrolling in the area.

One detective approached Mirror US reporter Connor McCrory on the scene, telling him, “You need to leave this neighborhood and not come back. This is an active investigation.” Subsequently, police followed him by car out of the Catalina Foothills neighborhood.

Nancy was reported missing in February, and the FBI were called to aid in the investigation. However, as the months droned on without any public leads, the headquarters of the case shifted away from Tucson. After all, the local law enforcement agency, Pima County Sheriff’s Department, came under severe scrutiny for the top cop Sheriff Chris Nanos’ handling of the case.

Nanos said he personally “opened” the crime scene, later claiming it was “reconstituted.”

“You’re going, ‘What is he thinking?'” United States Surgeon General and 34-year veteran of the Pima County Sheriff’s Department Dr. Richard Carmona previously told NewsNation’s Brian Entin. “All of us were just perplexed with some of the things that he said.”

It comes as the mysterious disappearance of an Air Force general has several chilling similarities to the Nancy case.
