Severe weather prompts Friday school closures on Oahu, Kauai’s Hanalei Elementary

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – All Oahu public schools and Hawaii State Department of Education (HIDOE) offices will be closed Friday, April 10, due to severe weather expected to impact the island.
Private schools Sacred Hearts Academy and Damien Memorial are also closed Friday.
Education officials said the decision was made out of an abundance of caution, citing concerns about flooding, hazardous road conditions and potential power outages in multiple communities. The closure follows Gov. Josh Green’s directive issued April 9.
On Kauai, Hanalei Elementary School will also be closed because flooding conditions are affecting access to the campus.
All other public schools and HIDOE offices on Kauai, Hawaii Island and in Maui County are expected to operate normally at this time.
HIDOE said it will continue monitoring conditions and coordinating with state and county emergency management agencies to guide any additional operational decisions and ensure student and staff safety.
