Prince George Cougars got a 4-1 Game 1 victory over the Penticton Vees

The first game in the second round of Penticton’s Western Hockey League playoff journey fell flat on Friday night.

The Penticton Vees couldn’t find the back of the net until the third period when facing off against the Prince George Cougars at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

The visiting team scored first about halfway into the starting period, with Jett Lajoie snagging the puck from when the Vees tried to clear their zone.

Terik Parascak then scored on a power play against the Vees, taking the puck off a deflection to put the Cougars up 2-0 near the end of the second period.

The Cougars would add on a third at the start of the third when Lee Shurgot got in a rebound shot that caught Vees goaltender AJ Reyelts out of the net.

Parascak pushed the game further out of reach near the end of the third by adding an empty netter to make it 4-0.

Penticton wasn’t going to allow a shutout, managing to get a goal in the last minute of the third thanks to Noah Milford, making the final score 4-1.

The teams will be back for game 2 on Saturday night at the SOEC. Puck drop at 7:05 p.m.
