Gable Steveson hints he is close to UFC signing

Gable
Steveson signing with the
UFC seems just a matter of time now.
Stevenson (3-0) has clearly expressed interest in a future with the
UFC ever since he transitioned to MMA. The former five-time NCAA
champion and Olympic gold medallist recently hinted that he is
close to signing with the UFC. While Stevenson has signed with Real
American Freestyle, he emphasizes that MMA remains his priority.
While Stevenson didn’t mention the UFC explicitly, he promised good
news “any day now.” Considering the hype behind Stevenson and the
ongoing chatter about a UFC signing, his recent comments most
likely hint at the same.
“I got a couple of matches with RAF. I told everybody I’m a
full-time mixed martial artist and I would love to keep doing
that,” Steveson told The Schmo . “But I got good news – any day
now.”
Steveson is scheduled to make his RAF debut on May 30 in Dallas,
Texas, against an opponent to be decided. While an RAF title would
be significant for Steveson, the 25-year-old clarifies that a UFC
title is of utmost importance to him.
Just a Little Reminder
“[The RAF belt] would mean a lot. But the UFC belt is the biggest
thing for me,” he said. “So I’m doing RAF to show people that I can
still wrestle, that I’m still great at wrestling, show people that
I’m one of the best heavyweights of all time. But the UFC title is
more important to me.”
Steveson has been training with the legendary Jon Jones, who
promises to put everything behind his prodigy. Steveson has
finished all three of his MMA fights in the first round so far,
also scoring a first-round knockout win at Dirty Boxing. Steveson
believes he is ready for the UFC.
“I think I’m ready,” Steveson said. “I like to keep it short and
simple, though. I like to keep it just real humble and try the best
I can. I think I’m ready.”
