The weather in the North East has been very fickle of late, with scorching days followed by blustery nights. For many in the region, the unsettled weather of spring has brought more misery than joy.
However, weather charts indicate that we could see a return to warmer days next week. So warm in fact, that some areas of the country are looking forward to temperatures of 22°C.
While only the South East can see temperatures that high, that doesn’t mean it’s all doom and gloom in the North East. From the middle of next week, temperatures will start to rise again.

According to WXCharts, Newcastle may still reach between 13C and 16C. While it isn’t the sorcher that we saw last week, it’s certainly a welcome break.
The Met Office long-range forecast indicates that this will be the norm for many in the North. It states, “Later, conditions may become drier and more settled, especially in the north, but parts of the south may still see some showers or longer spells of rain.”
Most importantly “Temperatures will likely be near to or slightly above average.” But the good news continues.
Typically, the north tends to bear the brunt of the bad weather, with the south getting off easier, due to the geographical layout of the country. However, the reverse will be true for the rest of April into May.
The Met Office states: “The dominant pattern during this period is most likely to be high pressure to the north and lower pressure to the south. This will probably lead to the driest, most settled weather in the north of the UK, with the south more unsettled and wetter.”
As with the previous forecast, the Met Office states that “Temperatures will probably close to or slightly above normal overall.”
Last week, the UK enjoyed unseasonably warm weather, which reached 26 °C in the South East on April 8. However, temperatures quickly dropped into single figures over the weekend.
Though if forecasts hold, we could say goodbye to these colder temperatures until later in the year.
