China’s Exports Stumble, Imports Soar in First Month of Iran War

China’s export growth slowed sharply in March while imports surged, as seasonal factors added to the fallout of the war in IranBloomberg Terminal on global energy supply.
Exports rose just 2.5% from a year earlier, according to a statement released by the General Administration of Customs on Tuesday, falling well short of forecasts after a gain of almost 40% in February. Seasonal distortions linked to the timing of the Lunar New Year, along with the statistical effect of a high base last year, likely exaggerated the slowdown.
