Painted Tree Boutiques ceases operations, orders vendors to remove inventory

Painted Tree Boutiques in Tyler has abruptly ceased all operations. The store confirmed Tuesday to the Tyler Morning Telegraph it is closed to the public and only vendors have been informed of the details.

According to a letter sent to and provided by shop owners to the paper, the boutique ordered vendors to immediately retrieve their merchandise following a sudden and permanent closure of all retail locations across the country.

In the letter, the company confirmed it has stopped all business activity effective immediately and will no longer conduct retail sales at any location. The Tyler location, located at 8970 S. Broadway in the Village at Cumberland Park shopping center, opened in December 2024 and was home to more than 300 small businesses.

“We understand the impact this has on you and your business, and we are truly sorry,” the letter reads. “We know many of you have invested significant time, energy and resources into building your spaces at Painted Tree, and this is not the outcome any of us hoped for.”

According to multiple posts on social media, customers and vendors across several locations reported being notified of the shutdown with little to no advance warning.

Many locations were preparing for scheduled events, including this week’s Ladies Night that was scheduled for Thursday evening at the Tyler store.

Vendors have reportedly been given a 10-day window, from April 14 through April 24, to remove their inventory, according to the letter sent to shop owners. Stores will be open to vendor space renters only from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day for retrieval only with limited staff on-site. Shop owners are instructed to call upon arrival for entry and the general public is not permitted to enter the store.

No official reason for the sudden closure has been provided. The development follows unconfirmed reports that the company may be considering Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

With more than 60 locations nationwide, the retailer — known for housing hundreds of local vendors under one roof — operated as a “shop small” marketplace featuring boutique clothing, home décor, handmade goods, and artisan products.

The Tyler Morning Telegraph reached out to the Painted Tree Boutiques via phone, where the call-taker confirmed the store is closed to the public. The paper has also contacted the store’s corporate marketing team for official comment.

This is a developing story and more information will be provided as it is made available.
