Western Capitals force Game 7 with victory in Truro

Summerside defeat Truro 2-1 to play in second straight Game 7

The Summerside Western Capitals improved to 4-0 in elimination games during the Metalfab MHL Cup Playoffs with a strong defensive effort and a 2-1 win over the Bearcats in Truro on Sunday night.

The visitors jumped on the board first near the end of the 1st period as Ryder Howatt opened the scoring at 17:21. Brett Arsenault made it a 2-0 lead with a powerplay goal off a one-timer at 2:08 of the 2nd period. Truro cut the lead in half at 17:40 on a powerplay goal from Éli Baillargeon in a period where Truro outshot Summerside 20-9.

But Truro couldn’t muster much of anything in Summerside’s end in the 3rd period, and the Western Capitals finished off the win. Kolton Bourret made 30 saves in the win, while Truro’s Sam Berthiaume had 17 saves in the loss.

Game 7 will be back in Summerside on Thursday night.
