‘Toy Story 5’ First Look: Disney Pic Teased At CinemaCon

Disney has unveiled the first trailer for Toy Story 5, the latest installment in its beloved animated franchise, starring Tim Allen and Tom Hanks.

Footage was shown for the room only during Disney’s CinemaCon panel in Las Vegas on Thursday. It was hard to watch the toys be shoved aside by a kid entranced by her new Lilly Pad device, green and connected. Jesse goes heads over to lay down the law but can’t make much headway. “Our kid needs to make friends and your screen isn’t helping.”

“Listen to me!”

“I am listening,” Lily says, playing back the cowgirl’s diatribe then in Spanish, then in rap.

Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, who voice Woody and Buzz, the iconic original duo, also took the stage together at CinemaCon for the first time to talk up the film.

Continuing one of the most successful franchises in animation history, centered on a beloved set of sentient toys, Toy Story 5 finds Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the rest of the gang’s jobs challenged when they’re introduced to electronics, a new threat to playtime.

Allen is of course back as Buzz Lightyear, with Hanks reprising his role as Woody.

Previously, Allen has praised the sequel, saying that “it’s a very, very clever story” and adding, “I don’t really believe it’s about the money. I’m sure they want it to be a success, but that’s not why they did it. Had they not come up with a brilliant script, they wouldn’t have done it and they wouldn’t have called me and Tom. It’s really clever.”

The voice cast of this installment includes Craig Robinson as Atlas, a cheerful talking GPS hippo toy; Shelby Rabara as the excitable camera toy Snappy; Scarlett Spears as the sweet and shy 8-year-old Bonnie; Mykal-Michelle Harris as Blaze, an independent 8-year-old girl who loves animals; and Matty Matheson as the tech-fearing toy Dr. Nutcase.

Others featuring in the cast include John Ratzenberger as the wisecracking piggybank Hamm; Wallace Shawn as Rex, the anxiety-riddled tyrannosaurus rex toy; Blake Clark as the ever-loyal Slinky Dog; Jeff Bergman as the sarcastic Mr. Potato Head; Anna Vocino as the nurturing Mrs. Potato Head; Annie Potts as the adventure-loving Bo Peep; Bonnie Hunt as the wise rag-doll Dolly; Melissa Villaseñor as Karen Beverly, Bonnie’s homemade toy fashioned out of a plastic knife; John Hopkins as the dignified hedgehog plush toy Mr. Pricklepants; Kristen Schaal as the plastic triceratops toy Trixie; Ernie Hudson as the action figure Combat Carl; and Keanu Reeves as Canadian daredevil toy Duke Caboom.

Toy Story 5 is set to hit theaters on June 19.
