Flightline Colt Sells For $10.5 Million At OBS April

There’s breaking records, and then there’s what happened midway through Friday’s final session at OBS April.
After a week of build up, the bidding came to a head as a son of Flightline (hip 1056) absolutely demolished the OBS record, selling to Amr Zedan for an eye-watering $10,500,000.
“There was a lot of hype on this horse and he followed through with the hype,” said bloodstock agent Donato Lanni. “When he worked, everybody got on the rail and watched, and he delivered. Bob [Baffert] loved him. [Flightline] is one of the greatest racehorses of all time. [This colt] look like he’ll carry his endurance like Flightline.”
Bidding on behalf of a group that included West Point Thoroughbreds and Lane’s End Farm, David Ingordo was the direct underbidder, going to $10 million for the partnership.
“He was a lovely horse and he made a lovely price,” said Ingordo, boarding a plane to leave Ocala. “I don’t even know what to say about a sale like that. Obviously, we love the stallion. That was what our interest in him was.”
Ingordo, of course, put together the partnership who bought Flightline at the 2019 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale, which included Hronis Racing, Siena Farm, West Point Thoroughbreds, Woodford Racing, and Summer Wind Farm, who stayed in for a share. Flightline retired undefeated and was the 2022 Longines World’s Best Racehorse and Horse of the Year. His first crop is two this year.
Consigned by Hartley/DeRenzo Thoroughbreds, also responsible for sale’s highest priced filly on Wednesday at $2.3 million, the colt was a $575,000 Keeneland November weanling grad.
The hype train was full on once this bay colt hit the track for his under-track preview last week, working in a sales co-fastest time of :9 3/5.
The previous OBS April record was $2.45 million paid in 2017 for Conquistador (Tiznow) while the overall OBS record was the $3 million paid for Brant (Gun Runner) in 2025.
