Alex Drummond’s family trip to Sedona got off to a rough start.
Just a few days ago, Alex had shared that she, husband Mauricio, and baby Sofia were heading to Arizona with Mauricio’s family for a spring getaway. It sounded like one of those sweet little family trips that might be a little chaotic with a toddler in tow, but still full of sunshine, stroller walks, and time together before baby number two arrives this fall. Instead, once they got there, Sofia wound up dealing with a health scare that sent everyone to the doctor’s office.
“First day of vacay starting at urgent care,” Alex wrote on Instagram, alongside a photo of Mauricio holding Sofia. “Is Sofia allergic to Arizona?? Stay tuned.” She added: “Never a dull moment! Thankfully she is in good spirits & breathing normal!”
In another update, Alex shared that Sofia was “okay,” before sharing the verdict: “she’s having a reaction to the antibiotics she was taking for her ear infection.” Alex said they got some medication and added that “hopefully she will be back to normal ASAP.”

The good news is that Sofia didn’t seem too bothered by the whole ordeal. In one cute shot, she was enjoying fresh air and looking at flowers outside (all while in her jammies, of course).

Still, that had to be such a hard thing to deal with away from home—and especially on the very first day of a trip! Later that night, Alex opened up a little more about how overwhelming it all felt. “Today was one of those momming days where I could really use a glass or two of wine at the end of it,” she wrote. Between “urgent care visits, messaging pediatrician back home on MyChart, obsessive googling, administering meds & trying everything to keep this gal somewhat happy,” she said it was one of those extra stressful parenting days, especially while traveling.

And Alex’s update ended on a very tender note. She said she was reminding herself “these things are so stressful and hard because of how much we love this precious girl and that is a blessing.” She also thanked everyone for their prayers and kind messages, adding that hearing how common this kind of reaction can be made them “feel so much better!”
Poor Sofia. Hopefully the worst of it is behind her and the rest of the trip is a whole lot smoother!
