Teacher’s aide accused of having sex with Avondale eighth grader

AVONDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — A West Valley teacher’s aide is facing felony charges after police said she had sex with an eighth-grader multiple times.

According to court documents, the investigation into Jessenia Rodriguez, 22, started when a Sun Valley Academy student’s stepmother heard a rumor and other parents encouraged her to look through the boy’s phone.

When she did, she found evidence of a sexual relationship, investigators said, and the police were called on March 31.

Police said the next day they interviewed the 15-year-old student, who said the relationship started when the two flirted during recess and he got her number.

He said he had FaceTime calls with her, including one with Rodriguez’s child in the room, court paperwork said.

Police said the victim told them the first time they had sex at his Avondale home in March he didn’t wear a condom and bought a Plan B pill for her.

About two weeks later, Rodriguez texted the student three photos of positive pregnancy tests, investigators said.

Court records said the pair talked about having “rough intercourse” that “could cause a miscarriage.”

The boy told police they had sex a second time, when he wore a condom, and then a third time on a park bench near his home, court paperwork said.

Rodriguez reportedly told the student not to tell anyone, and she could get in a lot of trouble if anyone found out.

After the interview, the court documents said the teen called Rodriguez while police listened and told her his parents found out and that they were mad. She reportedly denied having sex with him and said she felt like she was being “set up,” police said.

After looking through his phone, police said they found dozens of images and messages they tagged as evidence, including text conversations where Rodriguez sent photos of pregnancy tests and discussed getting an abortion.

Detectives said they also found Snapchat messages where Rodriguez told the victim she was “craving” him and described a sexual dream. In the recently deleted folder, investigators said they found a message from Rodriguez that said she “had fun” and “loved it” after one of their encounters.

The messages also show the boy reached out to someone named “Nina” and told her he was involved with an older person who wanted an abortion, court records said. “Nina” promised not to tell anyone and offered to drive Rodriguez to an abortion clinic, police said.

On Thursday, police searched Rodriguez’s Tolleson home near 93rd Avenue and Van Buren Street and arrested Rodriguez.

During the police interview, officers said Rodriguez admitted to the three sexual encounters but said they did not have sex the third time.

She knew the boy’s age and knew it was wrong, police said. Rodriguez was booked into jail on four counts of sexual conduct with a minor and luring a minor for sexual exploitation.

Her bond was set at $100,000 cash-only.
