A new TV show starring Josie Gibson and Paul Ainsworth is set to bring Gloucestershire’s culinary legacy to the national stage, showcasing the county’s historic Tewkesbury mustard and Stinking Bishop cheese.

Josie’s Taste of the Westcountry follows the Bristol-born broadcaster alongside celebrity chef Paul Ainsworth as they traverse the county, uncovering beloved local restaurants, craftspeople, and food producers from Gloucestershire down to Cornwall.

Throughout the five-part series, 41-year-old Josie embarks on a regional adventure, starting off in the idyllic Cotswolds. Meeting with Countryfile’s Adam Henson, Josie meets his special pigs before trying one of the UK’s smelliest cheeses, the Stinking Bishop, made famous by Wallace and Gromit.

Joining Paul in the kitchen, she then helps him make a delicious fondue with historic Tewkesbury mustard.

On her trip to Gloucestershire, Josie said: “I met Charles Martell, who makes Stinking Bishop – the rare cheese made famous by Wallace & Gromit! It made him an overnight sensation!

“I met the lady that does Tewksberry Mustard Balls in the Tudor town of Tewkesbury. It’s the birthplace of mustard that was so good, even William Shakespeare was writing about it.”

Shakespeare’s favourite condiment. (Maybe)

A devoted West Country native, Josie expressed her enthusiasm about presenting the area’s finest culinary delights.

She said: “With its gentle, rolling hills, rugged moors and gorgeous coastline, it’s always been a place close to my heart.

“If you are a foodie and you love the Westcountry, you’re going to love this show! Even if you’re not – you’re still going to love this show! It’s very wholesome. I was on a learning adventure.”

Josie reflected: “I didn’t realise how much we had on our doorstep, we should be really, really proud of it. It was amazing to really shine a light on some of the incredible people in the Westcountry.

“I love the Westcountry – I’d like to give a big thank you to all those Westcountry folk that I’ve met along the way.”

Josie is joined by Paul Ainsworth, patron chef at Paul Ainsworth at Number 6 which has been awarded one Michelin star.

“I was working with Paul Ainsworth – it was the first time I’ve met him – and I’ve always tried to get into his restaurant,” she said.

“He made so many incredible dishes, with layers of flavour in a way I’ve never experienced before. We’d source the ingredients and he’d show me how to transform these wholesome ingredients into mouth-watering, unforgettable dishes!

“Maybe I’ll get a table at No. 6 next time I got to Padstow, Cornwall… It was an amazing experience making the show together.”

Josie’s Taste Of The Westcountry, in association with Rodda’s, airs on from Sunday 19th April at 11.25am on ITV and ITVX
