‘Virgin River’ Fans, You’re Not Ready for This Huge Cast Shakeup

Virgin River is returning for season 8 after new episodes premiered in March 2026.
Fans were shocked to learn that Marco Grazzini had exited the show as Mike Valenzuela ahead of Virgin River season 8.
The actor surprised viewers by opening up about the true reason behind his TV exit.
OK, Virgin River fans. We have to discuss the major shakeup happening on the show…and it’s not exactly something you will like.
With season 7 premiering on Netflix back in March, fans were eager to get back in step with the folks living in Virgin River. While the storyline of Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack Sheridan’s (Martin Henderson) parenthood journey definitely played a major part in the season, we also saw Jack’s sister Brie (Zibby Allen) work with her ex, Mike Valenzuela (Marco Grazzini), and Charmaine Roberts (Lauren Hammersley) and her babies running from her toxic ex! And even though Brie and Mike did manage to keep things cordial, it seems like this plot point alluded to something bigger with the future of the show.
And we’re right, but it’s not good news. As Deadline reports, Marco is leaving the show before the upcoming season 8.
So, why is Marco Grazzini leaving Virgin River? Well, the actor is speaking out on what’s going on, and the answer may surprise you.

When the news broke of Marco’s exit from Virgin River, he didn’t allude to what led to the final decision. But he did go on Instagram on March 22 to express gratitude to the show and the fans for all the support they’ve given him over the last few years.
“✌🏼 thank you,” he wrote in the caption.
As for how the Virgin River cast took the news, they were supportive but clearly sad.
“😢❤️🔥,” Alexandra wrote. “Love you brotha’—you’re such a class act and it was an absolute pleasure and a joy to work with you. It started 20 years ago 🤯 and it’s not anywhere close to being done yet. I’ll see u down the road on another one but I’ll always be a phone call away for you. Much love my man,” Ben Hollingsworth (who plays Dan Brady) wrote. “Until the next one, Marco! I’ll miss you! ❤️❤️❤️,” Kai Bradbury (who plays Denny Cutler) added.
But that’s not all. When Marco initially spoke to the outlet in an interview about leaving Virgin River, he said that he’s ready for a “new chapter” in his career and that exits like his happen often on TV.

“Character departures are very common in this business—especially on a long-running and beloved series like Virgin River,” he stated. “It’s been a wonderful opportunity to play Mike for six seasons. I have nothing but love for the cast, crew, and especially the phenomenal fans who make the show so special. I’m excited for this new chapter in my career.”
Fans may remember Marco first appeared in season 2, when his character Mike popped up as a friend of Jack’s from his time in the Marines. He later got bumped to a series regular in season 3 and has since been involved in the inner workings of Virgin River up until his exit from the show.
Additionally, with Marco’s exit, we do wonder if he’ll ever make a cameo in the future. As showrunner Patrick Sean Smith told Deadline in the same interview, fans can never say never when it comes to this show.
“We have so many relationships already that I think a little bit of that was just a sort of happy ending for this chapter for Mike,” he added. “But I love Marco and could see his character coming back in a more substantive role if the creative is right.”
We’ll definitely miss Marco on Virgin River and can’t wait to see what’s next!
