Truro defeats Summerside in Game 7, advance to Metalfab MHL Cup FInal

Truro hangs on to win a thrilling Game 7, Eastlink South title
The Truro Bearcats have captured the Eastlink South Division Final after a 3-2 win in Game 7 in Summerside on Thursday night. The Western Capitals outshot Truro 8-4 in the 1st period, but neither team scored. Truro struck first at 13:34 of the 2nd as captain Liam Welsh scored his second of the playoffs.
In the 3rd period, Jake Todd gave Truro a 2-0 lead at 13:12, and Antoine Fontaine made it a 3-0 lead at 17:02. Summerside, who were once down in the series 3-1, were far from done. With the net empty, Eliott Robert got Summerside on the board at 17:57. With Kolton Bourret on the bench once again, Summerside cut the lead to 3-2 at 18:39. The Western Capitals kept the pressure on, including a wild sequence until the buzzer sounded, but couldn’t find the equalizer and Truro picked up the victory.
Sam Berthiaume made 34 saves in the win, while Bourret had 19 saves for Summerside.

Truro are now off to the Metalfab MHL Cup Final to face the defending champions, the Edmundston Blizzard. A full schedule for the league final will be announced when available.
For Summerside, their season isn’t done as they are the host team for the Centennial Cup. The national Junior A championship starts May 7th at Credit Union Place.
