Southwest flights avoid collision at Nashville International Airport. The FAA is investigating the incident

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Update: The Federal Aviation Administration released the following statement on the incident involving two Southwest flights at the Nashville International Airport on Saturday:

The crew of Southwest Airlines Flight 507 initiated a go-around at Nashville International Airport and then received instructions from air traffic control that put the flight in the path of another airplane that was departing from a parallel runway. Both flight crews responded to onboard alerts.

The FAA is investigating the event that occurred around 5:30 p.m. local time on Saturday, April 18.

Earlier: Southwest flight forced into evasive action to avoid another plane at Nashville airport

Southwest Airlines has confirmed to WSMV4 that one of its flights was forced to use evasive action to avoid “conflict” with another flight at the Nashville International Airport over the weekend.

Southwest reports that while approaching BNA amid gusty wind conditions, pilots of Southwest Flight 507 executed a precautionary go-around.

During that action, the pilots used instructions from air traffic control and an onboard traffic alert to avoid “conflicting” with Southwest Flight 1152, which was departing from another runway.

Flight 507 was able to land after the go-around and Flight 1152 continued to its destination in Knoxville.

“We are engaged with the FAA as part of the investigation. Southwest appreciates the professionalism of its Pilots and Flight Crews in responding to the event. Nothing is more important to Southwest than the Safety of our Customers and Employees,” the airline said in a statement.
