Terence Crawford Calls For Gervonta Davis Vs Shakur Stevenson Fight

Rather than a rematch with Isaac Cruz or a move involving Floyd Schofield, Crawford says he would rather watch Davis face Shakur Stevenson next.

Davis has not fought since March 2025, when he escaped with a draw against Lamont Roach Jr. in a result many fans disputed. A rematch was discussed afterward, but momentum stalled as Davis explored an exhibition with Jake Paul before legal issues and inactivity changed the picture.

The WBA later placed Davis as champion in recess, leaving uncertainty around the lightweight title picture. Floyd Schofield has pushed for his mandatory position to be honored, while other names continue to circle.

Crawford made his preference clear when asked about Davis returning, wanting him to fight former WBC lightweight champion Shakur, who had been hounding him in the past about fighting him.

“I would love to see Shakur vs Tank Davis,” said Crawford to Danielle Pirrello on Instagram.

Crawford’s view also means more because of his connection to Shakur Stevenson. He has long been seen as a mentor figure to Stevenson, who has patterned parts of his style on Crawford’s. That makes his backing of a Davis-Stevenson fight more notable than a routine prediction.

It is an easy fight to understand. Stevenson’s control, defense, and discipline against Davis’ power and timing would give boxing a genuine top-level event instead of another stay-busy move. That is why the fight keeps coming back into discussion.

Stevenson has chased the bout publicly more than once, but there is still doubt that Davis will take it. Since beating Teofimo Lopez in January, Stevenson has only strengthened his side of the argument.

If Gervota returns soon, he has options against many different fighters. Crawford wants him to fight an opponent, Shakur, that would attract the most interest around the 135-lb weight class. If Davis is willing to jump up to 147, he’d have an arguably bigger fight available against Ryan Garcia. That would involve Tank taking a risk against a bigger puncher.
