We Drove Ram’s New 650-HP Supercharged Street Truck and the Hemi Magic Is Back

If you’ve been reading HOT ROD over the last couple of years, then you already know we’ve been deep into the modern sport truck movement. From supercharged and turbocharged Ford F-150 builds to high-horsepower street trucks pushing the limits of factory performance, we’ve covered plenty of Blue Oval muscle. But the sport truck world doesn’t begin and end with Ford.
Recently, we logged serious windshield time in the 2026 Ram 1500 DC650 by Fox Factory, a factory-backed performance truck that signals Ram’s aggressive return to the street-truck wars. First revealed ahead of the 2025 SEMA Show, the DC650 is Direct Connection’s answer to the booming demand for high-performance pickups, arriving at the perfect moment as Ram reintroduces the Gen III Hemi to the 1500 lineup.

That timing is no accident, either. Since returning to lead the brand in late 2024, CEO Tim Kuniskis has wasted little time steering Ram back toward enthusiast-driven performance. His first major move was bringing the Hemi back to the Ram 1500 after backlash from loyal buyers who still want V-8 power. The response was immediate, with more than 10,000 orders placed within the first 24 hours of its return.
And the momentum didn’t stop once the headlines faded from the limelight. Ram’s resurgence continued well into 2026, with Car and Driver reporting a massive 25 percent year-over-year sales increase during the first quarter, making Ram one of Stellantis’ biggest success stories.

The DC650 represents the next chapter in Ram’s revitalization as a purpose-built, high-horsepower street truck engineered to prove the sport truck era is far from over. And if recent teasers are any indication, Ram is only getting warmed up. A recent video clip featuring Dana White hinted at yet another performance-oriented pickup waiting in the wings, further fueling speculation that the brand is doubling down on enthusiast trucks.
That momentum continues with the triumphant return of the Ram 1500 TRX for 2027, now packing an outrageous 777 hp. Putting it all together, it’s clear Ram is looking to dominate the performance truck segment.

What Is the 2026 Ram 1500 DC650?
As we were finalizing travel plans for the 2025 SEMA Show, a press release landed in our inbox that immediately grabbed our attention. Fox Factory teamed up with Direct Connection, Mopar’s in-house performance arm, to launch a new high-performance street truck called the Ram 1500 DC650.
Under the hood sits a Whipple-supercharged 5.7L Hemi pumping out 650 hp, backed by a package that includes a MagnaFlow/Direct Connection exhaust system, upgraded ECU calibration, Ridetech suspension, 22-inch wheels, and a long list of interior and exterior styling upgrades. Even more important, the DC650 arrives with a factory-backed three-year warranty and a starting price of $89,995, signaling a serious move to carve out space in the growing sport truck market.

Until recently, factory performance trucks largely centered around off-road capability, with vehicles like the Ram TRX, RHO, and Ford F-150 Raptor dominating the conversation. But the market is clearly shifting back toward pavement-focused performance trucks with big horsepower and aggressive street presence. Ford Performance has already teased its FP700 package for the F-150, while Fox Factory’s Black Widow trucks continue gaining traction alongside offerings from Shelby, Roush, and Saleen.
