Esther was last seen around 11:15 p.m. on Friday, May 15, in the Earl Bales Park area in North York. At the time, she was wearing a long-sleeved turquoise sweater with words on it and grey pants.
Late Thursday, police said the teen was last spotted just after midnight on May 16 in the Bathurst Street and Hotspur Road area, which is almost 3 km south of the park.
It’s unclear what she was doing at the park, and she hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
In addition, police said Esther has previously been diagnosed as being on the spectrum.
Duty inspector Jon Rose said Thursday, police are dedicating a significant amount of resources to the search.
“Given Esther’s age and the length of time she’s been missing, we remain deeply concerned for her safety. For that reason this investigation continues at a Level 1 search and that is the highest search level that we can attain,” he said.
Missing persons searches start at Level 3 and are gradually ramped up to Level 1. The Level 1 designation unlocks a number of resources including use of the marine, mounted and canine units as well as collaboration with other investigative units.
“Officers are continuing to search for Esther on a 24-hours, 7-days-a-week basis,” said Rose.
“Anyone with information, no matter how small, please come forward… any information would be greatly appreciated.”
So far, Rose said no new tips have come in, but officers have received a tremendous amount of support from the community.
