I tried Llandudno’s new Mediterranean restaurant – this is why you should too

The Black Zeytin, on Upper Mostyn Street, opened just a few weeks ago at the site of another former Mediterranean restaurant.

Like many of its neighbours, Llandudno’s newest foodie hotspot has outdoor seating which will be perfect as we head into the summer months.

Its interior is polished, with olive green (Zeytin is the Turkish word for olive, so this is a nice touch) and burnt red paintwork interspersed with a bare brick finish.

Its menu is extensive, offering pizzas, Mediterranean courses, pasta and rice dishes, desserts and choices for kids.

I felt it was only right to go for a true Mediterranean dish, so selected the Spanish Chicken (£19.95) which is described as “savoury, hearty and spicy”.

The dish, a favourite on the Iberian peninsula, is a tender chicken breast cooked with chorizo, chilli peppers, onions, cherry tomatoes and garlic in a rich tomato sauce, and did not disappoint.

Rice is served on the side, and for a drink I chose an Appletiser which complimented the spice well.

The restaurant is on the pricier side, with its Mediterranean main course option, a vegetarian moussaka, costing £16.95.

When I was there, the place was quiet – but this could be down to it having just opened and still finding its feet, and the fact it was a Thursday evening (hardly peak hours for a restaurant).

The service was great, with staff very welcoming and helpful and dutifully seeing to any needs.

If you’re in Llandudno, The Black Zeytin is the perfect place for a taste of the Med and brings something a little different to the town’s restaurant scene.
