Will Indy 500 and Canadian GP clash?
There is a possibility of a clash between the 2026 Indianapolis 500 and F1’s Canadian Grand Prix, which both take place today, Sunday May 26th.
As part of a calendar re-jig, F1 have moved the Canadian GP forward in the schedule from its mid-June slot to run on the final weekend in May, with the race, taking place on Sunday.
The scheduled start time for the Canadian GP is 16:00 local time, 21:00 UK time. This raises the possibility of a minor direct overlap with the Indy 500.
The green flag is set to drop in Indiana at 12:45 local time, 17:45 UK time, some three-and-a-quarter hours prior to the planned start of the Canadian GP.
Typically, the Indy 500 lasts for about three hours, but if there are weather delays, as in 2024, or any lengthy caution periods, the 500 could run over into the grand prix.
The two races have never directly overlapped before, with F1 usually hosting the Monaco GP on Indy 500 day, but owing for the desire for increased calendar regionalisation, and to form a North American leg with Miami, Canada was moved forward into the Monaco slot, which now takes place on the first weekend in June.
