Tottenham receive surprise boost in pursuit of Sporting CP star Morten Hjulmand

Tottenham will have some big decisions to make to rebuild their squad.
Tottenham Hotspur are keen to sign top players in the summer as they look to rebuild the squad after a disastrous campaign.
The Lilywhites have taken their relegation battle to the final day of the season. Roberto De Zerbi’s side needs only a point against Everton to secure top-flight status at the expense of West Ham, who host Leeds United at the London Stadium on Sunday.
Therefore, our boys must secure Premier League status today before the N17 chiefs can totally turn their attention towards signing players who can help them close the gap on their rivals next season.
It is clear that the North Londoners need to bolster their midfield department in the summer. There is a lack of quality and depth in those positions, and the ongoing injury crisis at N17 has not helped the club’s cause either. The club cannot afford to invest only in young talent who may or may not make their mark, so the board must be prepared to invest heavily in proven quality instead.
Tottenham get boost in their pursuit of Sporting CP star Morten Hjulmand
Spurs have been interested in signing Sporting CP skipper Morten Hjulmand. The defensive midfielder has been a consistent performer for Sporting CP in recent years, and he has enjoyed an excellent 2025/26 season, registering three goals and six assists in 44 appearances.
The Denmark international has a release clause of €80million in his contract that runs until 2028. However, there is a big possibility that the 26-year-old departs at the end of the season. According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Sporting CP are closing in on the signing of BK Hacken midfielder Silas Andersen, who is viewed as a potential replacement for Morten Hjulmand.
It has been reported that Sporting would be ready to open negotiations for Hjulmand at around €60m, even though he has an €80m buyout clause. And the Portuguese club closing in on Silas Andersen’s acquisition should come as a surprise boost for Tottenham.
The Dane would be an excellent fit for De Zerbi’s system, given his distribution skills, ball-winning ability, reading of the game and leadership. Hjulmand’s tactical discipline and experience would make him a straight upgrade on Yves Bissouma, who is set to leave Tottenham on a free transfer this summer.
However, without European football next season, the Tottenham boss would find it extremely difficult to convince the Sporting CP captain to become a part of De Zerbi’s project in North London. Yet, they must not hesitate to engage with the player’s entourage and test the Portuguese club’s resolve in the transfer window.
