Rylan Clark has admitted that he’s glad his cheating secret was exposed as he addressed how he now feels about his ex-husband.
The This Morning presenter and former X Factor split from former Big Brother contestant Dan Neal in 2021. Rylan and Dan tied the knot in 2015, two years after they began seeing each other.
Their six-year marriage came to an end when Rylan admitted he had been unfaithful earlier on in their relationship. Since then, Rylan has been open about his struggles.

Rylan took four months off work and spent some time in hospital after the divorce, previously saying that he had a ‘full-on breakdown’. He is now in a relationship with businessman Kennedy Bates.
On Sunday night (May 24), ITV viewers will see Rylan taking part in the latest episode of The Assembly. The series sees a group of inquisitive interviewers who are autistic, neurodivergent and/or learning disabled put questions to celebrities.
A participant named Cameron asks him during the episode: “When you told your husband you cheated on him, you divorced him. Is honesty always the best policy?”
Rylan replied: “Yeah I think it is. I’m okay admitting when I’m in the wrong. I don’t deal well with guilt and I don’t deal well with secrets. It made me so ill, so ill. It sounds like a terrible thing to say, but I’m glad it happened…

“Do you know I never think about him? This is like, my whole body went like [jumps up]. I miss feeling like I had it all. I thought I had life done. I’ve got the job, I’ve got my family, I’ve got my marriage, I’ve got the car and I’ve got the house. I thought I had it sussed.”
Towards the end of the episode, a woman named Claire quizzed Rylan on how he coped during his breakdown. According to Rylan, he felt like he had ‘the rug pulled out’ from under him.
“That’s the only way I can describe it. It was like I fell over and I couldn’t get back up, like I broke both my arms and legs. I thought I wasn’t going to get out of it. I went back to live with my mum because I didn’t want to be in my house.
“There were too many memories of things there. I did this thing with a cup of tea, which will sound strange but it helped me. On day one, I walked over to the kettle in my mum’s house, pressed the button and walked away.
“That was enough for day one, I couldn’t deal with any more. On day two, I pressed the button on the kettle and watched it boil. On day three, I pressed the button, watched it boil and got a cup out of the cupboard, that was enough,” he said.
Rylan continued “Low and behold I got to the day where I could make my mum a cup of tea again, that’s when I started getting better because I knew I might not be able to run, but I can crawl, then I can walk and now I can run.”
The Assembly airs on Sunday, May 24, on ITV1 and ITVX at 10pm.
