Holiday mountain rain chances and some changes in the Valley next week

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — High temperatures climbed to 99 degrees so far this afternoon, just above the seasonal average of 97. Tonight will remain mostly clear with overnight lows settling into the mid-70s.
Sunday brings more of the same across the Valley, with highs in the 99-100 range. There is a slight chance for a few light showers over the higher terrain southeast of Phoenix Sunday evening into early Monday morning. By Monday (Memorial Day), temperatures ease back slightly with a high near 98.
In the High Country on Monday, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across northern and southeastern Arizona, including areas around Flagstaff and the White Mountains. Rain chances there sit around 50 to 60 percent. Some storms could linger into Monday evening, so travelers returning from the holiday weekend should check the forecast before leaving.
Back in the Valley, Tuesday looks mostly sunny with highs in the mid to upper 90s. Winds will become a bit breezier Wednesday as temperatures dip slightly below normal, topping out near 95 degrees. Even cooler conditions are possible Thursday and Friday, with highs falling into the low 90s. By Saturday, temperatures will rebound closer to average with a high near 97 degrees.
