Details: The Arrhenius gas carrier arrived in Russia from Belgium with magnetic mines found on board, the FSS’s public relations centre said.

FSS said the vessel was due to load fuel at the port of Ust-Luga before heading to the port of Samsun in Türkiye.

However, during an inspection of its underwater section, divers found attached mines that had allegedly been made “in a NATO country”. Each contained about 7 kg of explosives.

The FSS claims the magnetic mines could not have been attached in Russian territorial waters.

The gas carrier entered the port of Ust-Luga on 20 May, several days late. The captain told investigators that before unloading at the Belgian port of Antwerp, the gas carrier had been sent to an anchorage, where it stayed for “about 36 hours, supposedly because of a strike by port workers”.

Russian investigators are “carrying out a set of investigative actions and operational search measures aimed at identifying everyone involved in the crime”.

Background: It was reported earlier that four undersea cables have been damaged in the Baltic Sea since the start of 2025, while dozens of incidents involving flights over European coastal infrastructure, including military facilities, have also been recorded.
