LONGVIEW, Wash. (KPTV) – Multiple people were injured in an implosion at a facility in Longview early Tuesday morning.
The Longview Fire Department said there was an implosion involving a vat of chemical treatment product at the Nippon facility, located at 3401 Industrial Way, at about 7:18 a.m. The facility produces paper products like tissue, printing paper and more.
Multiple people suffered chemical burns and other injuries and have been taken to local hospitals. Officials said the extent of their injuries is not fully known at this time.
Officials said firefighters and a Hazardous Materials Team are working with Nippon employees to mitigate the product and container involved.
There is no immediate threat to the public, according to officials.
People should avoid the area and stay away from Industrial Way while emergency crews are on scene.
