Oklahoma City defeated the San Antonio Spurs 127-114 in Game 5 on Tuesday, taking a 3-2 series lead in the Western Conference finals.
Historically, teams that won Game 5 in a best-of-7 series tied 2-2 went on to win the series 82% of the time (198-44 series record), according to ESPN Research. This is the seventh time the Thunder have taken Game 5 in a best-of-7 series that was tied 2-2 since moving the Oklahoma City in 2008-09. They are 6-0 in their previous series.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 32 points and nine assists, including 16-of-17 from the free throw line. Alex Caruso added 22 points, his fifth 20-point game off the bench over the last two postseasons, tying Bennedict Mathurin for most in the NBA over that span. Jared McCain had 18 points, while Chet Holmgren had 16 — his highest-scoring game of the series.
Following a strong shooting performance in Game 4, Spurs star Victor Wembanyama struggled with 20 points on 4-of-15 from the field. Stephon Castle had a team-high 24 points for San Antonio along with six assists and five rebounds.
