But who will reach the last 32?

French Open Day 4 Predictions

Elena Rybakina vs Yulia Starodubtseva

Amanda: Yuliia Starodubtseva reached a new milestone at the start of clay season with a run to the Charleston final, but since then she hasn’t shown she can compete with the very best of the WTA Tour, and right now Elena Rybakina is the very best. She had a dominant win in her first round and can certainly replicate that performance here.

Prediction: Rybakina in 2

Nurein: Rybakina came through the opening round comfortably in straight sets. I think she looks far more settled physically compared to earlier in the clay season. Her serve and first-strike tennis remain massive weapons and should carry her to another straight sets win.

Prediction: Rybakina in 2

Andreas: Both players lost four games in their French Open openers, but Rybakina has arguably been the best player of 2026.  It’s been a career-best season for Starodubtseva, though there’s pressure on her shoulders as she’s defending third round points. Rybakina should be able to control the points with her serve, and reach the third rouund.

Prediction: Rybakina in 2

Jil Teichmann vs Magdalena Frech

Amanda: Magdalena Frech has had a tough go of it this clay season, and while Jil Teichmann hasn’t notched standout results either, the matches she’s played on clay are her first matches since September, and she’s slowly been finding form. She’s playing her best tennis at the right time as she defeated 20th seed Liudmila Samsonova in the first round in straight sets. Frech has been more consistently on Tour, but Teichmann’s current level is higher than Frech’s.

Prediction: Teichmann in 3

Nurein: It’s been a while, but could we finally be looking at Teichmann building some momentum at tour level? She saw off big-hitting Liudmila Samsonova in straight sets and now has a winnable second round match. Frech is steady from the baseline, though she often struggles against opponents with depth and crafty shots.

Prediction: Teichmann in 3

Andreas: Teichmann achieved an upset in her French Open opener, taking out 20th seed Liudmila Samsonova in straight sets. Against Frech, she should be the underdog again, but she has gone all the way to the fourth round at this tournament in 2022. Frech is 1-4 on clay courts this season, and despite her higher ranking of # 46, Teichmann has the craft to pull off an upset.

Prediction: Teichmann in 3

Jelena Ostapenko vs Magda Linette

Amanda: Jelena Ostapenko brings a degree of uncertainty to every match she plays, but against Magda Linette there is no reason to falter. Linette has won only one match this clay season and historically hasn’t had good results at Roland Garros, while Ostapenko is a former champion and has been playing well lately.

Prediction: Ostapenko in 2

Nurein: Ostapenko is unplayable when she can overpower her opponents from the baseline. She struck the ball cleanly in the opening round and looked confident attacking second serves. Linette is consistent and experienced, but I have to back Ostapenko to make short work of the Pole.

Prediction: Ostapenko in 2

Andreas: Linette fought tooth and nail to reach the second round of this tournament, defeating Tereza Valentová in just under three hours. Ostapenko, meanwhile, won 6-4 6-4 against Ella Seidel in her opener. The Latvian is up-and-down at any tournament, but she should be more refreshed and has the stronger game as the 2017 French Open champion.

Prediction: Ostapenko in 2

Alycia Parks vs Vicktorija Golubic

Amanda: Neither Alycia Parks nor Viktorija Golubic have any standout recent results, but both have been fairly consistent this clay season and both notched good wins in the first round of the French Open, with Golubic dominating against Panna Udvardy and Parks taking out 24th seed Leylah Fernandez. The win over Fernandez makes this matchup lean the way of Parks, but Golubic’s variety could force errors from the hard-hitting Parks and extend the match.

Prediction: Parks in 3

Nurein: Parks has the bigger serve and more raw power and will feel confident after knocking out Leylah Fernandez. But her inconsistency off the ground can become exposed in slower conditions especially against opponents who have more tricks up their sleeve. And Golubic is one of those with her silky backhand slice.

Prediction: Golubic in 3

Andreas: If Parks can control her powerful serve and fearless forehand, she’s hard to stop on any surface. Golubic is a bit more consistent from deep in the court, but she’s held a lackluster 3-7 record a tour-level this season, while Parks has had the slightly steadier year. Dips in form are still common for Parks, and it could be hard for Parks to follow-up a big win over 24th seed Leylah Fernandez.

Prediction: Parks in 3
