Train cars derail in Beloit, several streets closed

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Beloit Police Department said several streets are closed Tuesday due to a train car derailment in the southeast part of town.

Kyle Railroad, which owns the line in Beloit, said the derailment involving six cars happened around 5:30 a.m.

The police department said the derailment impacted Brooklyn, Elm and Asherville streets.

The police department said it doesn’t know when the streets will reopen and asked residents to avoid the area to allow emergency and railroad crews to work.

The rail company said there were no injuries. It added that it is working to restore the scene quickly to minimize impacts on residents.

The cause of the derailment has not been determined.
