Threat of violence at Rialto High School triggers lockdown; all-clear given, 1 student detained
RIALTO, Calif. (KABC) — Rialto High School was placed under lockdown on Monday afternoon as the San Bernardino and Rialto police departments responded to an alleged threat of violence.
Rialto Unified School District announced the lockdown in a post on social media at 1:58 p.m. The school district said Rialto High School Principal, Dr. Caroline Sweeney, had informed families.
Rialto police reportedly received a call of someone threatening violence at the school with weapons and explosives at 12:44 p.m.
Video from outside the school shows several armed officers searching the campus.
After the search, the all-clear was given, and students were released to their parents/guardians.
The police department said no shots were fired and no weapons or explosives were found.
Two minor injuries were reported as students evacuated, police said. One person had an asthma attack, and another fell.
A student, who police are calling a person of interest with reference to the threats, was detained, police said.
In an update at 3 p.m., the school district said students were being reunited with their parents/guardians at 2:45 p.m.
