French Open 2026 live updates: Day 6 latest with Swiatek on court, Djokovic and Zverev also in action today

Horrible scenes on Court 6, in the women’s doubles second-round match between the Ukrainian pair of Anhelina Kalinina and Dayan Yastremska, and Germany’s Tatjana Maria and Zeynep Sönmez.

Sönmez went to chase a shot in the back court, then realized she was about to collide with a small, green advertising block on the court floor. Sadly she realized too late, tripped over it and ended up in a heap against the wall.

She eventually walked away from where she fell after a bit of treatment but following a medical timeout, took the decision to retire hurt and Sönmez limped off the court, ending the match after just two games — both won by the Ukrainians.

I have to say, in my view, those advertising blocks on that court looked like an accident waiting to happen. There should be nothing like that on the surface where the players could trip over them like that.
