Sakkari through to third round, Tsitsipas bundled out at French Open

It’s mixed fortunes for the Greeks in Paris so far, with Maria Sakkari now into the third round while Stefanos Tsitsipas has lost his second match at the French Open.

After dropping the first set to American Claire Liu, Sakkari came back out firing to a 6(7)-7(9), 6-3, 6-3 victory.

The highest ranked Greek player was much more clinical with her serving, notching up six aces to Liu’s zero, while winning her first serve at a 73 per cent rate.

She also won five of the eight break points she earned and fought off six of the eight she had against her.

Meanwhile Tsitsipas’ run of early Grand Slam exits continues, after falling to Italian Matteo Arnaldi 7(7)-6(2), 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.

The 2021 finalist couldn’t keep up with his opponent who was much more solid with 46 winners to 28 unforced errors and 77 per cent of points won behind his first serve,
