Jennifer Lopez is in the running to be the queen of the romantic comedy—so when she crowns a specific leading man her very favorite, it’s worth paying attention to.
In Lopez’s case, her No. 1 leading man is none other than Brett Goldstein, who bested Matthew McConaughey, Richard Gere, and Ralph Fiennes (among others) for the honor. The two play love interests in the upcoming Netflix rom-com Office Romance, which hits the streaming service on June 5. Goldstein, who co-wrote the project, specifically wrote it with the actress and pop star in mind.

“Let’s not mince words here,” Lopez said at the Los Angeles premiere of the film on May 26 as she declared Goldstein her “No. 1.”
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the movie’s director Ol Parker said that he saw the chemistry between the film’s two leads “straight away,” adding, “I said nothing for three hours—they just laughed together and I just sat there going, ‘This is easy, this is going to be great.’”
This isn’t the first time the “On the Floor” singer has spoken highly of the Ted Lasso star. Last October, she named Goldstein as “the best kisser” during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live. Lopez also told People that she had “great chemistry” with Goldstein, who had similar high praise for her.

“We started asking ourselves who the best rom-com star is, and without hesitation, we both said JLo,” he said. “It’s easy to write a rom-com when you have JLo in mind. She’s the best at this stuff. We just wanted to write something funny and smart enough to be worthy of her saying yes.”
Goldstein told Variety that he was “so nervous” sending the script to Lopez. “It’s all a fucking gamble,” he said. “I knew I was a huge fan of hers, and she was brilliant, but I didn’t know if we’d get on, if we’d make a good film together. It’s just a fucking gamble, but I’m so pleased with how it turned out.”

For her part, the Maid in Manhattan star was “really surprised” because “I don’t get where people, like, write something for you specifically,” she said, per E! News. “Like, they’ll write something and then be like, ‘Okay, she’d be great for that.’ But to write it specifically with you in mind is a whole different thing, and it was very flattering.”
The chemistry between the two is so great that it’s left the public asking—is this a showmance, or is this an actual romance? During a May 27 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Lopez confirmed that she is happily single. “I should have done it sooner!” she told the talk show host of flying solo. “I’ve been doing it all wrong. Trust me.”
Calling singlehood “fantastic,” she added, “I’ll meet somebody somewhere one day, if they’re good enough.”
“I’m good right now,” the entertainer continued. “I’m happy.”

In an interview with InStyle last September, Goldstein addressed rumors of dating Lopez head on. “Yeah, that sort of thing isn’t my favorite,” he said. “It’s near impossible, but, ideally, you just don’t look at any of that stuff because it will make you very uncomfortable.”
“And maybe I should just be flattered that anyone could think that that would be a thing, you know what I mean?” he added.
