The incident happened at a business in Corringham.
The incident was reported at around 11pm on Sunday, May 25, when a suspect forced entry to a premises in Grover Walk.
Around £300 was stolen from the till, along with a tip jar.
Officers believe the incident may be linked to other attempted burglaries in the area and are urging anyone affected in recent days to come forward if they have not already spoken to police.
The suspect is described as a man wearing a dark tracksuit, bright coloured gloves and a partial face covering.
He was seen riding a black electric bicycle.
Police have issued a CCTV image as part of their investigation and are asking the public if they recognise the man.
