News – HUCKENBECK GRABS GLASGOW MAX TO REACH FIM SGP CHALLENGE
German international Kai Huckenbeck stepped up his pursuit of a Speedway GP comeback by booking his place in the 2026 FIM SGP Challenge with a 15-point maximum at the Glasgow qualifier on Saturday.
Huckenbeck blazed through the card with five straight wins in Scotland to reach the Challenge at former FIM Italian Speedway GP circuit Terenzano on July 25, where the top four riders secure their spot in the 2027 FIM Speedway Grand Prix World Championship.
He is joined in advancing to Italy by Aussie champion Jack Holder, who was second 12 after winning a run-off with Great Britain racer Anders Rowe, who also takes his place in Terenzano.
The final two spots were claimed by Danish international Frederik Jakobsen and GB veteran Chris Harris, who both bagged 11 points, before beating former world No.3 Maciej Janowski in a run-off for the final qualification places.
Harris made it through to the Speedway GP elite the last time an FIM SGP Challenge took place in Italy at Lonigo in 2014. Janowski also qualified that night and will be hoping he gets called up as a replacement ahead of the event.
Swedish rider Victor Palovaara fell short of qualification on nine points, with GB rider Adam Ellis exiting on seven.
FIM SGP CHALLENGE LINE-UP (not in draw order): Luke Becker (USA), Kim Nilsson (Sweden), Rohan Tungate (Australia), Keynan Rew (Australia), Dominik Kubera (Poland), Robert Lambert (Great Britain), Jaimon Lidsey (Australia), Andzejs Lebedevs (Latvia), Kacper Woryna (Poland), Michael Jepsen Jensen (Denmark), Kai Huckenbeck (Germany), Jack Holder (Australia), Anders Rowe (Great Britain), Frederik Jakobsen (Denmark), Chris Harris (Great Britain), plus one wild card.
