The Triple Crown reaches its final stop this week, and this one comes with a goodbye. The Belmont Stakes has spent the last few seasons at Saratoga, borrowing a stage as its real home is rebuilt. This is the last go before it heads back where it belongs.
As the colts sort out the final jewel, the 3-year-old fillies have their own score to settle. The Grade 1 Acorn pulls the top of the Kentucky Oaks (G1) back together, with unbeaten Always a Runner taking on Meaning, Counting Stars and Prom Queen, the three she ran down at Churchill Downs. Chad Brown’s filly goes for four straight. The others want payback, and this division is anybody’s right now.
This is one of the best weeks on the calendar for horseplayers. Outside the main event, the week serves up 19 graded stakes across three tracks, eight of them Grade 1s, with first post Thursday.

Tawny Port finished seventh in last year’s Belmont Gold Cup, eased after heavy rain forced the marathon off the turf to a sloppy Saratoga main track. The turf specialist later strung together three straight runner-up finishes, capped by a second in the Canadian International (G1) at Woodbine and a career-best 100 Beyer Speed Figure, according to Daily Racing Form. Trainer Miguel Clement’s 7-year-old ran fourth most recently in the Elkhorn (G2).
