Celtic player has ‘contract terminated early as goodwill gesture for service’

The centre-back had a year left on his Parkhead contract, but both parties agreed to end it this summer.

According to Sky Sports, the decision to allow him to end his deal a year early was a “goodwill gesture” for his service over 10 years at Celtic.

It’s claimed Welsh’s efforts to take points off of Celtic’s title rivals while on loan at Motherwell also factored into the decision.

Celtic and Stephen Welsh have mutually agreed to part ways this summer.
