Problem Solved
Norwegian Cruise Line canceled around three months of cruises on its Norwegian Viva ship.
The company scrapped planned departures between Nov. 1, 2027, and Jan. 23, 2028, the cruise line said in letters to guests shared with USA TODAY. The ship was scheduled to sail from Lisbon, Portugal, to San Juan, Puerto Rico, before homeporting there, according to CruiseMapper. The ship will redeploy to Miami instead.
“We are committed to providing exceptional vacation experiences, both aboard our ships and by taking our guests to some of the most sought-out destinations around the world,” Norwegian said. “While we try to maintain original itineraries as much as possible, at times modifications are made to optimize voyages due to changing port availability.”
The cruise line shared alternative sailings with affected passengers and offered full refunds and future cruise credits equal to 10% of their fare.
“We truly appreciate your understanding as we continue to evolve our deployment in ways that create even more memorable journeys ahead,” Norwegian added. “We look forward to welcoming you on board soon.”
Cruise cancellations are relatively rare but do happen for reasons such as ship charters or when vessels need to go into dry dock for maintenance work or refurbishment. Carnival Cruise Line, for example, canceled 11 cruises aboard its Carnival Firenze ship earlier this year that were scheduled to sail in October and November, citing changes in itinerary plans.
